A group of driven African female entrepreneurs created the Dubai-based platform project known as Africa Fashion Week Middle East (AFWME) in 2020. The purpose is to dismantle barriers and emphasize the long-standing commercial ties between the Gulf region and Africa. Designers this season had the opportunity to attend fascinating runway shows and activations thanks to partnership with key partner Earth of One Eight.
From March 15th through March 17th 2023, Africa Fashion Week Middle East’s (AFWME) maiden editon was held at Gate Village, DIFC. The platform encourages Africa’s gifted designers to exhibit their most recent collection on a global scale.
Among the luxury clothing manufacturers that displayed their collections were; Kiza Bespoke (Nigeria), Mantsho (South Africa), OMAAD (Senegal), Urban Zulu (Congo-South Africa), Ntombi Couture (Zimbabwe) and Caped Coast (Ghana). The designer’s versatile presentation were authentic and highlighted crafts from their heritage.
Five designers have their first-ever Metaverse showrooms during an African Fashion Week. AFWME’s mission is to increase the visibility of African fashion designers through creative, environmentally friendly, and technologically advanced events in the area, which will also aid in their expansion within the GCC and on the international markets.
AFWME brings together such a wealth of talent and creativity under one roof and to share with our audiences all the wonderful creations that exist in the African continent. AFWME’s mission is to widen the circle and welcome even more talented individuals to join us season after season. At AFWME, we aim to play a significant role in creating a sense of unity and awareness with art and design, bringing together nations to create a community.
