Following its global success at the Dubai Expo in 2021, ARISE Fashion Week 2023 took place in Lagos this February. It was an extraordinary 3-day celebration of ARISE’s influence on the fashion industry in Africa and throughout the world.
With over 25 top designers and jazz-themed performances from well-known worldwide musicians, this unique edition of “ARISE Fashion Week & Jazz Festival,” which took place from February 2nd to 4th, 2023, took participants and fashion fans on an exhilarating trip packed with instructive experiences.
With Nigeria’s Arise Fashion Week, the continent of Africa begins its fashion season. Lagos will take center stage this year. However, this isn’t a typical event. For the 20th time, one of Africa’s greatest fashion weeks is the Arise Fashion Week. It will took place in a carefully designed three-day presentation, holding space as a jazz festival.
Arise Fashion Week has been dedicated to promoting African fashion since it first debuted in the halls of the Eko Hotel in Lagos in 2007, and does so via innovation, discovery, and financial assistance. The Arise platform was dynamic, moving up locations and cities to host its events at a period when global fashion’s tastemakers had not yet waxed poetic about the African fashion sector.
Star Appearances at the Arise Fashion Week 2023
After the launch of a gated storefront in Lagos in December last year, accompanied soon after by the release of a runway collection held on its premises, Folake Coker’s Tiffany Amber will present a collection at Arise. It will also signal a return to familiar ground for the Nigerian womenswear luminary.
Selam Fessahaye, Xuly BetBianca Saunders, Joy Meribe and Mokodu Fall, among the diaspora and African designers who exhibited runway presentations. The likes of Mariya Sanusi, Ameer by Ameer and Syari Bespoke brands that were displayed during Arise Fashion Week presented for the first time. the 30 Under 30 competition, like Fruché, Pepper Row, and overall winner Kenneth Ize was also featured.
Arise Fashion demonstrated during the event how it is assisting the upcoming generation of African designers and providing them with a stage from which to lead. Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Lisa Folawiyo, Ituen Basi, are among the familiar names who also graced the Arise runway.
From the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2008 to the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg in 2009, and the prestigious Bryant Park, New York — It has established itself as a continental destination for African designers and beyond over the past 20 years.. Superstars in entertainment like Grace Jones and supermodels, Alec Wek, Rihanna, Akon, Solange, Imaan Hammam, and Naomi Campbell have all made appearances. This year we saw performances from A list Nigerian musician Wizkid and the legendary Herbie Hancock American Jazz artist and 14 times Grammy award winner.

Arise Fashion Week has been firmly established as a cultural spectacle thanks to the African creative explosion in music and art. Here is all you need to know about its 20th performance, which will take place at the Eko Hotel, where it all began.
On Saturday, February 4, 2023, the grand finale to three days of reveling in fashion at the 20th anniversary of ARISE Fashion Week came to a stunning finish. This “Future Forward” themed event showcased some of the most recognizable brands in the African fashion business on its third day. In celebration of progressive African creativity in fashion and music as well as ARISE’s role in promoting musical and design talents from our continent and beyond, ten outstanding designers from Africa and the diaspora displayed their incredible collections against a background of jazz music selections that were carefully chosen.
