The Aso oke fabric is a hand-woven cloth created by the yoruba people of southern Nigeria, the name aso oke is translated ‘top cloth’ in English language, it is difficult not to find aso oke in any important yoruba ceremonious gathering.

Aso oke is quite tough to the touch and thick as well. It is produced by knitting straps of cotton fabrics with other materials by the aid of a wooden locally crafted machine which makes it easy for the cloth maker to match cloth straps with precision.
With many different colours and designs, aso oke is always eye-catching and will forever be an important source of adornment for the yorubas people who are majorly socialite and love to party a lot.

I won’t be exaggerating to say a typical yoruba wedding party, chieftaincy coronation and festival celebration is incomplete without aso oke in attendance, if not as the main cloth it can still be worn as head tie know as ‘gele’ for the ladies or cap known as ‘fila’ for the men. Anyways, aso oke still remains not just an important raiment but a cultural heritage to the yoruba tribe.
