Dora Akunyili was director-general Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) from 2001 to 2009. Her tenure was known for her zero tolerance for fake drugs and her dogged fight against the penetration of these illicit drugs into the nation.
Akunyili destroyed so many ineffective items considered to be drugs which were illegally smuggled into Nigeria through her borders burning them to ashes from time to time ensure there are no such items in circulation.
This unique tigress was also known as an upright and uncompromising person and her integrity speaks volume, serving in a country like Nigeria which is regarded as one of the most corrupt democracy in the world but still being honest regardless of the several attempts made by these currupt drug cartels to take her life. Dora later passed on the 7th of June in India where she she travelled for medical attention after a protracted sickness.
Though she gone but her legacy lives on.
